Abolition of the Osu Caste System in the Southeast Region of Nigeria
We are dedicated to the abolition of the Osu caste system in all the communities of the Southeast region of Nigeria respectively.
The Osu caste system is an ancient practice in the Southeast region of Nigeria whereby social interaction and marriage with certain members of the society commonly referred to as Osu (out-casts) are forbidden and prohibited with socially severe sanctions against violators. The Osu were traditionally compelled to live in traditional marketplaces or shrines of the community deity and prevented to live amongst other people considered as free-born. They are further subjected to all kinds of indignities, segregation, discrimination, denial and deprivation of their basic rights through culture and traditions as they are regarded as sub-humans therefore not equals to the freeborn people.
IFETACSIOS Big Dream
IFETACSISOS Big Dream is the assembling of the Igbos in unison at the Okpara Square, Enugu State to traditionally abolish Osu, Ohu, Ume and Diala Caste system. It’s going to be a home coming event whereby the Chairmen of the Council of traditional rulers of the five Southeast states (Imo, Abia, Anambra, Enugu. Ebonyi) with the consent and the approval of their counterparts to abolish the out caste in Alaigbo.
This event is aimed at availing the Igbo tribe the opportunity to collectively seek forgiveness from God on behalf of their ancestors as well as make peace with God and humanity.
Furthermore, it will restore peaceful coexistence and project the Igbos on the positive limelight as the first tribe to collectively abolish the caste system which is worthy of emulation.
